Overview
The AI Whistleblower Initiative enables individuals to confidentially report unethical, unsafe, or unlawful uses or the negligent lack of deployment of Artificial Intelligence. The program protects those who come forward while ensuring that all reports are reviewed fairly, thoroughly, and in accordance with the Council’s ethical standards. By promoting accountability and transparency, the initiative strengthens public trust in the responsible advancement of AI technologies.
Purpose
This program provides a secure and trusted channel for identifying and addressing potential risks, ethical lapses, or failures to act responsibly in the field of AI. Reports may include, but are not limited to:
• Misuse of AI systems for discrimination, surveillance, or misinformation
• Violations of intellectual property, privacy, or human rights
• Unsafe AI deployment without adequate testing or human oversight
• Lack of AI deployment in critical sectors where responsible implementation could improve fairness, accessibility, or efficiency
• Manipulative or deceptive use of AI in political, educational, or corporate environments
Each report helps the Council uphold ethical standards, prevent harm, and encourage organizations to integrate Artificial Intelligence in ways that serve the public interest and advance human dignity.
Confidentiality
The Council guarantees the highest level of confidentiality for all whistleblowers. A whistleblower’s identity is kept strictly confidential and is not revealed to anyone for any reason. Reports are anonymized before review, and identifying information is never disclosed without explicit written consent.
How It Works
Submit a Report – File a confidential report through the Council’s secure encrypted submission portal.
Initial Review – An independent Ethics Review Panel evaluates each report for credibility, scope, and urgency.
Follow-Up – When consent is granted, the Council may contact the reporting party for clarification or additional evidence.
Assessment and Action – Verified reports are referred to appropriate organizations, oversight bodies, or academic partners for investigation and remediation.
Our Commitment
The American Council for Ethical AI is committed to fostering an environment where transparency, accountability, and integrity are protected and encouraged. The AI Whistleblower Initiative ensures that unethical use, irresponsible deployment, and inaction in the face of known risks are all subject to ethical scrutiny. By protecting those who speak up, the Council reinforces a culture of responsibility that ensures Artificial Intelligence continues to evolve in ways that uphold public trust and the common good.
